The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love (Emperor Machine Remix Edit)
By Joe Housel - So The Rapture have a new album coming out: In The Grace of Your Love, September 6th after a 5-year hiatus. The bassist, Matt Safer, left a few years ago and considering he was the vocalist on 50% of the tracks, it will be interesting to see how they perform as a three piece live act at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 20th. Anyway, they released a remix of their first single last week through the the Adult Swim Single Series. The Rapture was one of my more favorite bands back from 2003-2006 so I'm really excited for their comeback.
The song definitely feels more like their debut album, Echoes, with a harrowing vibe that blends a little The Cure with Gang of Four. Definitely a lot more funk in this remix which never hurts on the awkward, white kid NYC dance floors.

Fabian - Last Flight
LA Producer Fabian has an album coming out August 22nd on Binary. A label that is quickly earning my respect as a go to for fresh electro. This is no different. Although, you will be a little taken aback when the vocals first come in, just give it a couple bars and you'll like it.

Get Your Gas In Greenpoint
So I took a field trip to Greenpoint. Moral of the story: Get your gas in Greenpoint. Not because it's cheap, but because the gas stations are stuck in 1970 in every way except price per gallon.

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends (LEGO Video)
They might be dead. But this is a pretty sweet adaptation of the video. This also happens to be one of my favorite tracks of theirs. It's just beautiful.

Alexander - Truth (White Arrows Remix)
Alexander is the solo project of Alexander Ebert, the front man of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. A very interesting man to say the least. Not to mention the fact that he most definitely resembles Jesus Christ himself. I like this remix. It's got a chilled out vibe that I'm diggin' right now. He's a wacky dude. And he's also insanely talented.

Bon Iver - Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)
So, everyone has been all over Bon Iver as of late. And I have to be honest, I have been very resistant. Not because I'm a hater, or because I don't believe in hype. Not because I hate Kanye with a passion. I just wasn't hearing it. I tried, I really did. But this "rerub" gets me. And I get it. From the first guitar chords, I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I knew I was in for something different. And this drum beat is legit. And just a slight touch of synth to put in your pipe. The whole thing is a looper. As in, I'm probably going to loop it until I put it into it's grave. And that's OK. There's a time and a place for songs like this. That time is now. And that place is right fuckin here.

Teen Daze - Four More Years
From our newest writer, Joe Housel. Joe wrote up his first post yesterday with his review of the U2 Show at the Meadowlands. We are pleased to welcome Joe on board as a staff writer and look forward to hearing from him on a more regular basis. I got an email from him last night with his first 5 tracks that he wanted to review and this, while not the newest track, stuck with me. It's about a year old, but it's fantastic. I'm excited to see what else Joe is into and we should all look forward to hearing from him. This one reminds him of summer. I concur.

Portugal. The Man - In The Mountain In The Cloud
Portugal. The Man are out of Wasilla, Alaska. But cut their teeth in Portland, OR. Makes sense. They've got that psychedelic sound that MGMT brought about a few years ago.TCC was right. I'm definitely hearing MGMT's Oracular Spectacular. I also hear a little Flaming Lips in their. It's solid and refreshing. And get this: You can stream the whole album right here!

U2 Played The Meadowlands
By Joe Housel - U2 returned to the Meadowlands last night after a year-long postponement due to Bono’s back surgery before the original concert date in 2010. The band continued their now 3-year long “360 Tour” behind 2009’s No Line on the Horizon. The proposed set design allowed the band to give the allusion of intimacy while performing in stadiums across the globe. The stage was surrounded on all sides by the audience and featured a claw-like supporting rig enclosing the 3,800 square feet, 360 degree, wrap-around HD screen. Lord only knows the daily production costs and time it takes to construct this monstrosity but you couldn’t help but be impressed with the manifestation of it all.
Former NYC darlings, Interpol, provided an excellent opening to the show. The band looked fresh and ran through a tight 10-song set that focused heavily on their first two albums, 2002’s Turn on the Bright Lights and 2004’s Antics. Their customary all black attire might not have been suiting to the 90 degree weather but Paul Banks’ vocals were strong and the band planned with purpose regardless of the crowd’s obvious disinterest. I admittingly gave up on Interpol after being slightly disappointed with 2007’s Our Love to Admire but will never doubt them as a talented live act.
After a lengthy setup, David Bowie’s Space Oddity chimed over the PA system to announce the spectacle was underway. U2 came out strong ripping through four tracks off 1991’s surreal Achtung Baby. Given my bias towards that album, I couldn’t think of a more perfect opening with the highlight easily being The Fly. From then on, U2 breezed through their never changing set list with all the greatest hits you could expect while sprinkling in a few new tracks for good measure. Special highlights included U2 dusting off the title-track to the bizarre but underrated Zooropa album recorded while on tour in 1993 as well as their single to the Batman Forever Soundtrack, Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.
Given the proximity to the legendary Asbury Park, Bono’s inter-song chatter was heavily focused on Bruce Springsteen and the recent passing of the E-Street band saxophonist Clarence Clemons which brought out the “best” in the pro-New Jersey crowd. Overall, the band certainly performed with high energy and genuinely seemed happy to be there even after 110 previous shows worldwide.
Having already seen U2 at the old Giants stadium in 2009, I can say without a doubt last night was the exact same show with an almost identical feel but in the end, who cares? Fans aren’t going to see U2 or The Rolling Stones world tours in order to see how the new material plays out live. You go for the greatest hits and hope to be dazzled by show-stopping stage theatrics. After close to 3 hours of nostalgic music, as long as you drowned out a few Amnesty International plugs and Bono’s preaching about the political unrest in Burma (Note: I’ll see you in hell), it turns out that New Jersey was the place to be last night.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults - Sophia In Gold
Now that's a mouthful. Interesting band name to say the least. Must be tough to fit them on a show poster. But that's besides the point. These guys have some Postal Service sound to them. I can't quite place it. Whatever you want to call it, I'm diggin it. Chilled out indie rock for you to do your homework or fall asleep. Anyways, these guys are from LA and we won't hold that against them.

The Drums - Money
So we saw these guys a while back when they were a surprise guest at the Beach Fossils show. And The Drums absolutely upstaged the Beach Fossils. It was almost funny. They are insanely talented and sound amazing live. Anyways, they played this tune that night and I've been trying to get my hands on it since. Finally, it's out. I love it. Check it out.

M83 - Midnight City
It's been a while since I've heard anything out of Anthony Gonzalez, the brilliant Frenchman behind M83. But he's got a new album coming out in the near future, and he's dropped this as a teaser. I wouldn't say this is the best track he's ever produced. But it's still good and noteworthy. It's no We Own The Sky But what honestly could be? Hopefully he's just warming us up. Look for his album out October 18th.

Theophilus London - I Stand Alone & More
No this is not a misprint. Theo's back again. I had to post this too. His album is dropping July 19th and it is going to be bonkers. Homeboy's about to blowup, check that. He already has. He's got an awesome sound. I like it. I think if you put Wyclef and Kid Cudi in a blender and sprinkled in some awesome you'd name it Theophilus London. Check it out.

Theophilus London - Why Even Try (RAC Remix)
Theophilus London is a hell of a name. And Theo's comin to us via Brooklyn. Respect. He's got it. This is just a great tune here. Lot's going on. It's a fresh take on hip hop and I'm digging it. I'm hearing some Yacht Rock influence ever so faintly in the background, I just can't place it. No doubt about it. And of course R.A.C. is bringing once again. R.A.C. is just churning out the hits this year. It's really rather impressive. Give it a listen, it's really really good.

Penguin Prison - Fair Warning (Clique Club Actualite Remix)
The kind folks over at Club Clique sent this over today and it sounds great. Another top shelf remix from these guys. They're last remix that was on TMD was of Sleigh Bells' Rill Rill and it's still top shelf. Anyways, this is another solid tune. Penguin Prison has been cultivating a nice little career for himself in the New York electro scene, and this only builds on that. This is definitely a top down cruiser. Saveit for twilight, when things might just be winding down, or the mellow before things really take off. Take her for a spin. She's nice.

The Knux - Run (Feat. Kid Cudi)
The Knux and the Kid. From the first strum of the guitar I knew exactly what was coming. Not in a bad way. In a "this is what the fuck I am talking about" kind of way. Coming to a summer party near you. Hooked.

Mumford & Sons - Home
The Brits who ironically are responsible for the "Americana" revival just released this track. Much more mellow and introspective than some of their earlier stuff, but still good regardless. Check it out.

Chasing Jeremy Jones
Chasing Jeremy Jones from IronFistMedia on Vimeo.
Last year Mr. Jones came out with "Deeper" a film which we talked about here and it was epic. Now he is working on the sequel "Further" which will only be more jaw dropping I'm sure. Well here we get a little taste of what's going on in his world these days and parallels with the big wave surfing world. I guess one can draw a line from one to the other. I mean, it's death on a stick no matter how you slice it right?
