So Phoenix is awesome. I know that. Hopefully you know that. I had a chance to see them in Central Park last fall for what was one of the most amazing shows I have ever attended. It was a cool, crisp, fall Saturday. And the stars aligned for a show of epic proportions. Passion Pit was the opener. By the time Phoenix came on stage, Passion Pit had already whipped the crowd into a dance party frenzy. I was skeptical that Phoenix would be able to match their tight album sound on stage, but they did just that and more. Their drummer is a maniac, and they put on a helluva show. It was one of those shows that you can't get out of your head for about a month and you ride that post show high/let down. Just awesome.
Anyways, they played a phenomenal rendition of Love Like a Sunset, much more drawn out and creative than the already drawn out and creative album version. It should be noted that when they were playing this, it started to rain and I couldn't have been happier. Here's a similar rendition from their Sydney show.
It's a very slow build, with the bass line going for a walk until about the 5:30 mark, at which point, they proceed to just flip the script and put on the turbo boosters.
Enjoy.
