The Future of Snowboarding Competitions

It's pretty clear at this point that when Travis Rice, Brain Farm and Red Bull team up, the end result is epic. They have produced two of the most groundbreaking snowboard films of all time in That's It, That's All and Art of Flight. Now they are taking their show to competitions. On February 3rd through 8th at Baldface Lodge in Nelson, BC, Travis and 17 of the world's best will have their way with the ultimate backcountry park. On TV. I can't wait.

The Art of Flight - Premiered In NYC

The scene was set.The Beacon Theater was taken over last night by the snowboard world and Justin Timberlake and everybody was ready to finally see what had been one of the best/worst kept secrets in the snowboarding world: The world premiere of “The Art of Flight”. The mood was electric and everyone was amped to be there and ready to party. As Curt Morgan told the audience. “You are the first people in the world to see this. Not even the riders have seen this in its entirety.” What we saw was magic.

Travis Rice would call it epic. Others would agree. To see this film on the big screen with Dolby Digital Sound fully cranked up makes the hair on the back of your neck stick up. It was simply cinematic bliss. For a short time, the outside world ceased to exist and the only thing that mattered was The Art of Flight.

There were a lot of questions as to whether Curt Morgan, Travis Rice and his merry band of rippers could possibly raise the bar they set with “That’s It, That’s All” three years ago. Those questions have been answered. They can. The cinematography is top shelf and evokes a “Planet Earth” HD quality to it, every shot is perfect from every angle. The soundtrack is perfectly on point, and the riders, obviously nail their parts as well. From spines to chutes and backcountry kickers to untouched AK faces they rip it all. On a scale that has never been seen before. I could go on and on about this. But at the end of the day, you should just go see it. You must see it. Don’t even think about it. Just do it. If you are fortunate enough to live in a city where they are touring,go to the premiere. If not, download it today, it just released. And get stoked for winter.

The Art of Flight - Teaser

So a couple of years ago Travis Rice teamed up with Brain Farm Cinema to produce the golden standard for modern day snowboarding films. The film was titled "That's It, That's All" - a quote from Jeremy Jones after a pristine run down a gnarly spine in Valdez. It took them two years to complete, and the result was nothing short of stunning.

Well, they are deep into production of their follow up which will be released two years later with the appropriate title: "The Art of Flight". If anybody knows anything about going big, it's Travis Rice. This will undoubtedly be the season's most anticipated film. And I expect nothing short of brilliance. With a team of riders who know no limits and Brain Farm, who's cinematography and approach to filming is rivaled by none, it should be a moderately epic production to say the least.

Deeper Premiere - Review

So we were fortunate enough to get some tickets to Jeremy Jones' latest film 'Deeper' premiere last night. And just when I thought the standard was set by the guys over at Brain Farm Cinema with 'That's It, That's All' 2 years ago, along came Jeremy Jones and TGR. In a world where most snowboard films are pretty much just glorified music videos with powder shots and kickers, Mr. Jones went all out to make a film not just about the ride, but the ascent to get there. Using minimal helis and no sleds, Jones and his crew hike 80 degree faces and camp out on some of the gnarliest  mountains ever ridden. They hike every line they take which makes them that much sweeter. It was not just a snowboard film, but a mountaineering film too; exploring mountain ranges untouched by humankind. Epic is the word of the day.

Travis Rice makes an appearance and quite possibly could have stolen the show. Ryland Bell is the future of big mountain snowboarding. Jeremy is as on point as ever. Please do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't look at snowboarding the same afterwards. Much respect & props to Jeremy and the foks at TGR. Well played. Consider the bar raised.

if you have not seen that's it that's all. please do yourself a favor and check it out. it is by far the best snowboarding film ever produced. too bad it's summer now, because you'll need to head to new zealand to replicate this one. travis rice goes huge. jerermy jones is the man. you have to respect jeremy, in an effort to save the planet, he has elected to no longer use a helicopter. all the lines and parts you see him in are hiked by him for sometimes days at a time. that's hardcore. get stoked.
