Casey Mendoza - Gold For Breakfast

I hate the Jets. But this intro is pretty ridiculous. I'm posting this otherwise solid mixtape just for the first 30 seconds. I don't care what you think of Rex Ryan or the Jets. That intro is downright nasty and sends the chills down the spine. This is from the kind folks over at Et Music Por Tous.

Those guys always have good things going on. And this is no different. This is the first mixtape for Casey Mendoza; a collaboration of Hector Mendoza, Jr. from EMPT and Kevin Casey. They're good.

Tinie Tempah - Wonderman (Feat. Ellie Goulding)

Fire. One word. That's it, that's all. Bustin on to the scene is Tinie Tempah. In your face comes to mind. I mean the synth in this is just absurd. It might take a couple of listens to even be able to comprehend it. But, trust, it's dope. Where do you even begin with this? Tinie Tempah is coming out of London. Wonderman is to be the first single off his forthcoming album due for release March 7, 2011. Just trust and listen.

Future Islands - Long Flight

I've started a few posts with the same idea. The idea is the song that comes along once in a Blue Moon and totally grips you by your core. And you can't really help but drop everything and take note. Future Islands' Long Flight does just that. These guys are out of Greenville, North Carolina, Future Islands just gets it done. It's just a well built melody with a driving bass line and a great pace. Flawless. I can't say it as well as you can just hear it:

Florence & The Machine - Cosmic Love

So this is not new. But I could not help but post this. Sometimes you go through life and you forget to really pay attention to everything that's around you. Sometimes, there's just too much at once to take it all in. Sometimes, things get forgotten about, left behind for no good reason other than we were simply too busy, or doing something else. Well, today I fix that. Today, I go back and I make right what I had made wrong.

Florence has been up here, but this should have gone up a long time ago. It's haunting. It's dark. It's beautiful. It runs shivers down my spine. The drums are what makes this song. But Florence makes it better. Just an all out amazing effort. I'm sorry for forgetting you Florence, it won't happen again.

Florence & The Machine - Cosmic Love

I'll throw in this remix just for fun. I was going to say it's not as good as the original, but I am not certain I can say that. This version is super slow to start out, but once it gets going it gets good. A fitting, driving re-work that does the original the justice it deserves

Cut Copy - Take Over Me (Mylo Remix)

Cut Copy has been around for quite some time. I'm actually surprised they havent grace TMD until today. Hailing from dance music mecca Melbourne, Australia, they bring it. They have pop sensibility coupled with slow melodic tunes that sneakily make you shake your tail feathers. And Mylo is just awesome. 2004 was when I first started getting into Mylo when he released "Destroy Rock and Roll". A collection of awesomeness that changed what I thought music could be. It's nice to hear form him again. He keeps his minimalist roots in check here and does what he does best laying down a stone cold groove.

Wiz Khalifa - Exit Row

Wiz is back and he's sounding better than ever. This is an unfinished little gem that got released a couple days ago. He's really grown on me. Kid just keeps bringing out the hits. There's no stoppin it. It's best to just let it happen, sit back and enjoy the show. When he says "steak sauce" the script gets flipped. I don't even know what it is. But something happens at that point and there's no looking back. Let it ride...

Hoodie Allen - Dream Up

We first met Hoodie back in the spring of 2010. He's since sold out a national tour and things are lookin up for Mr. Witz. He's clearly got something that's working for him. The University of Pennsylvania is treating him well as he is clearly well educated. Here he references Willie Beaman, Vince Young, Summer Heights High and Gone With The Wind. A broad spectrum to say the least. His rhymes are smart, sharp and witty. And the fact that he samples such quality indie hooks just furthers the argument that he is set for world domination. And he wraps it up nicely with steady flow and style. The future is bright for Hoodie. We wish him the best.

Aspen Extreme - Sequel In The Works?

Remember Dexter Rutecki? Badass skier who leaves Detroit with his buddy T.J. Burke to head to Aspen to live the dream? I don't have to tell you the rest because we all know what happened. A cult classic was born. Well, word is after 18 years, a sequel could be in the works. My brain just exploded. Just when I think things can't get any better I hear this news. Apparently the story line goes like this: Dexter had a kid back in Detroit he didn't know about. When the kid turns 18 he sets out to find out who his father is. Somehow, along the way he finds out that TJ is now a helicopter pilot in Valdez, Alaska. Extremeness ensues. I mean, who cares what the plot is? It's a sequel to the 2nd best ski movie of all time after "Hot Dog...The Movie".

Warren Miller - A Man Ahead of His Time

I remember sitting in my basement when I was 8 years old, watching Warren Miller videos like they were crack. I used to get so jacked up to go skiing because of these films. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Warren Miller and his soothing quirky voice-overs. A true legend in the ski film industry. It really takes me back. This is just downright amazing.

Mac Miller - Knock Knock

There are times in your life when you take a step back and take stock of what you got going on. I'm not saying Mac Miller made me do it, but I happened to have one of those moments around the time Tony Coffeecakes sent this over to me. Mac Miller is latest Sam Adams white rapper prodigy coming up. He's 18. He was born in 1992. I was 10 when this kid was born. That makes me feel old as you know what. But kudos to him, he's got some good flow. The beat and the hook are insanely catchy. You won't be able to get it out of your head all day. I love the 1950's vintage he's puttin on it too. It all works quite well. Solid.Again, kid was born in '92. I gotta get on my shit.

He's comin straight out of Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburg, which is the same high school that our boy Wiz Khalifa came out of with a fresh mixtape in hand and a record contract to boot. I came out of high school wearing parachute pants and awkward colors. Kids these days are so motivated.

Anyways, him and Hoodie should go on tour together.
