Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin (Tough Guys Interlude)

Bonafied Lovin has been around for quite some time. And Chromeo is not new to TMD. But this remix is new to me. And it's wonderful. I was dancing alone in the subway listening to it. I have Dolski to thank for this little gem. The key here is not only is the remix itself great, but at the 3:39 mark an entirely new interlude picks up and could really be a song on its own. Enjoy.

Grouplove - Colours

If Yeasayer and The Presidents of The United States of America got too drunk one night and made some bad decisions and then, those bad decisions led to a new band, it would be Grouplove. And when I say bad decisions, I don't really mean bad decisions. I mean like when Vince Vaughn says "bad decisions" in Swingers kind of decisions. Anyways, take it for a spin. Extremely interesting video by the way.

Childish Gambino - Let Me Dope You (Travis Wide Remix)

So Childish Gambino is a side project from Donald Glover. The dude from Community and the dude that used to write for 30 Rock. Apparently he got his name from a Wu Tang Clan name generator. We can talk about that later. The beat is sick. His rhymes are OK. I think they're a little forced, but at times they're funny. But the beat is the storyline here. Do not get it twisted.

Let Me Dope You (Travis Wide Remix) by Fresh On Campus

Holy Sh*t

Thanks to Ry Guy for the look. This is absurd. It starts off like any other go-pro video you've seen, then there's a tiny bit of a twist towards the end. Trust me, it's worth a full view. Makes you wonder what those jabronies up at Stratton are thinking when they have a camera strapped to their heads while making turns on a blue. This is why the go-pro was invented. So you can rip a spine and then parachute off the mountain. America. (Even though these guys aren't American.)

Strange Talk - Climbing Walls

They've only been around for a year, but Strange Talk certainly have managed to bottle that sound of the moment. Part Yeasayer, part Passion Pit, part Peter Bjorn & John they've got that dance heavy synth that keeps you movin. If you haven't heard it already, check them out:

Germany Germany - Take Me Home

Germany Germany - Take Me Home (official video) from Germany Germany on Vimeo.

Reminds me of the Postal Service. Beautiful tune. Germany Germany is the project of Drew Harris, a Victoria, British Columbia native who has been churning out tracks since 2009 under the moniker. Take Me Home certainly has a cinematic vibe to it. In my bio-pic, this would be the song when I'm sprinting in the rain after a girl. So deep.

Album is out this summer. You can pre-order it May 1st here:

MSTRKRFT - Beards Again

Holy guitars!

MSTRKRFT - Beards Again

Architecture In Helsinki - Contact High

Architecture in Helsinki is a group out of Melbourne, Australia; one of the best party cities I have ever been in. Fact. Anyways, they've certainly got a unique sound and approach to making music. It's like a blend of Yaz and Prince. It's a bit off kilter but its also insanely catchy. A nice way to ease into your weekend. Get the party started. Give it a listen. Enjoy.

Be Somebody

I guess it's art?? Either way I can't stop watching. It's actually from a book called Try-Ons by Clay Weiner. In which he plays a variety of characters and genders for that matter. Very well done. Thanks Streeter

The Drums - Music Hall of Williamsburg

So Beach Fossils played the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday. Surprise special opener The Drums did too. They blew Beach Fossils out of the water. I haven't seen an opener upstage a "headliner" that badly in a long time. Not to take anything away from the Beach Fossils. They were great too. It was just the Drums were that much better. Their energy was amazing while they ripped through their short set and you could just tell that they are entertainers. The Drums' lead singer Jonathan Pierce is truly a showman. He is a hybrid of Mick Jagger and Anthony Michael Hall. He contorts and slithers around the stage in the same outfit that I wore in 1987 when i lived in Orlando and got my school picture taken with the laser background setting. Yep. I got that one.

I don't know if this was a review, a story or an observation. Either way, it just happened.

Mullen & Turner - Always Up To You

We're gonna slow it down for a minute here at TMD. Mullen & Turner is a band out of Portsmouth, NH. A husband named Jason, a wife named Erin and a drummer named Jeff. When the kids get put to bed, the guitars come out. Sometimes, the guitars come out before they go to bed and everyone can sing along. Either way, music runs deep through their veins. Erin plays the keys and provides velvety vocals while Jason plays the guitar and lead vocals. The guitar on this track gets me every time. They've been cranking away in the studio for quite some time, and are just starting to leak some tracks. This is the first. Just a beautiful song. Check out their soundcloud and be on the lookout for these guys. Love you guys!

This has been a tough week. LCD Soundsystem has gotten me down. I realized I haven't posted ANY music this week. I think it was me subconsciously observing a moment of silence. The Most Insane Mountaineering Clip You'll Ever See

Wow. Dude is just insane. There's no other way to put it. I was literally jaw wide open on the floor. Ueli Steck is officially the craziest dude out there. My only question is: How does he get down?

Sidenote: The track is "Welcome Home" by Radical Face. Awesome song. Awesome band name.

Thanks to Jose Fuego for this one.

Stephen Mallon - New York

Stephen Mallon is an industrial photographer. And he's been following the MTA's reef program for the past 3 years. If you don't know what the MTA's reef program is, you're probably not alone. The Metropolitan Transit Authority’s recycling program has been involved for the past decade, retiring over 2500 subways cars to the ocean to help rebuild underwater reefs along the eastern seabed. Anyways, these are his photos. They cool. Check more out here Stephen Mallon

LCD Soundsystem - Final Show at MSG - Entire Show

So, I'm feeling rather sad today. It is the first day of the new world we must get used to. We must carry on and move forward, but we will be doing so without lcd soundsystem playing the soundtrack to our lives. It is a brave new world and I'm really nervous for how it's going to go. I am actually a little surprised at how much this has affected me. I mean I knew I would be sad, but I didn't think I would be this sad. I'm completely devastated. I can't help but read every piece of information related to the band today. I keep forgetting that's it's over and then it hits me. BOOM. They're done. It hurts. It's getting bad.

What I will say is that if James Murphy wanted to go out on top, he certainly achieved what he set out to do. They are at the absolute pinnacle of their career. And he crafted it beautifully. Putting a massive exclamation point on a completely stellar and impeccable career with lcd soundsystem.

He says he will continue to DJ, and I'm sure we will see some sort of new project come our way with him behind it. But there will never be another lcd soundsystem and that's really really sad. Thank you for creating the beautiful and awesome music that you did.

While you're wiping up the tears, check out this interesting piece on James Murphy from Esquire: How LCD Soundsystem Changed Music

LCD Soundsystem Played Terminal 5

LCD Soundsystem played night 4 of their 5 night farewell tour last night at Terminal 5. A fitting farewell for the band who grossly underestimated their own popularity. Thank you Mr. James Murphy and the rest of gang for putting on a simply wonderful show. They came out of the gates hot and just kept bringing it for what must have been 3 hours. As soon as the first keys for Dance Yrself Clean hit, the place went bananas and the crowd sort of moved as one for the rest of the night. There were so many moments of pure unadulterated joy, wonder, and holy sh*t moments I cannot even begin to go into detail. I just know that they put on a show, and if you weren't there, you'll never really know. And if you were there, well, you're one of the lucky ones.
